My new photo series “Honestly Ed’s” debuts

This week I’m unveiling my photo project, “Honestly Ed’s”, a faux clothing campaign celebrating the spirit and character of one of Canada’s most iconic brands. I’m revealing the project on @shootblake on Instagram and Twitter, and I’ll update this blog post to feature the entire series below as they are unveiled.

Honest Ed’s is a landmark discount store that is closing it’s doors at the end of December 2016 after 68 years of being an iconic retail fixture. In my over 25 years of living in Toronto, I’ve seen everything sold there at bargain prices. It was typical to see gold Elvis busts for sale right beside inexpensive hairdryers.

I wanted to create a collection of images that would honour Honest Ed’s and it’s impact on Toronto throughout it’s 68 years. This birthed “Honestly Ed’s”, a faux clothing campaign that is a combination of fun-loving models, customized Honest Ed’s T-shirts, and the spirit of Ed’s cheeky hand-painted sign slogans.

Overall, I hope these images make fellow Torontonians smile with love for this Canadian icon.
